Nu-Weight™ is a scientifically formulated blend of direct-fed microbials, animal fat, vegetable fat, high TDN, and protein to help put weight on problem horses. Research has shown supplementation of fat in equine diets improves stamina and endurance in performance horses. The additional fat in the diet of a performance horse increases energy density or “extra caloric” effect. This allows the horse to maintain adequate digestible energy in advanced training when going off feed. More importantly, fat is mainly utilized in sustained aerobic activity and preserves stores of carbohydrates (glycogen), improving long-term stamina. Select Nu-Weight™ supplements fat (60%) as an energy source and direct-fed microbials to insure dietary requirements are met. This allows the horse to eat less and get more out of its ration. Geriatric horses and hard-keepers have different nutritional needs. With limited total intake, and digestive efficiency, proper ration concentration can be critical to these animals. Nu-Weight™ contains bacteria and enzymes, which aid digestion by breaking down starches to sugars and complex protein into single amino acids. Fat supplementation is also beneficial as an energy source and to improve endurance and stamina. Nu-Weight™ has been developed after years of research and applied products in dairy cattle, hogs, and horses in the area of nutritional supplementation. Direct-fed microbials improve equine performance and health and address microbial deficiencies which cause digestive problems such as: gas, irregularity, poor appetite, and colic. Microbes are acquired throughout the life cycle of the horse, from the birth canal from nursing, and from supplies of food and water. There are thousands of different types of microbes ranging from bacteria, protozoa, fungi, and yeasts. The most beneficial microbials are Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, and Streptococcus.

Horses use microbes as bio-factories to synthesize vital nutrients and combat stress. It is common for a horse to be fed once or twice daily with highly concentrated feeds, resulting in a digestive overload with little help from the microbes to help break down feeds. Additionally broad spectrum wormers and antibiotics combat not only the pathogens and parasites causing illness, but the beneficial microbes as well. A variety of other behavioral stresses, including travel, competition, and breeding, can be just as disruptive to gut microbes as chemical treatment. The high levels of lactobacilla bacteria and streptococcus help break down carbohydrates in feed and combats the E. coli bacteria that causes scours in young foals and diarrhea in older horses. Aspergillus oryzae aids in breaking down cellulose in plant fiber.
